  1. Road Surface Condition<\/SPAN>. The condition of the road surface can be broken down in a few different ways: <\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

    1. a). The simplest would be the field, \u201cRecommended_Works\u201d. This is a 1-5 ranking that relates to the work required to repair the road. Here is an example screen shot of the rankings from the road data sheets that were sent as part of the project. This gives a fairly clear overview of which roads are in poor shape vs which are in good shape.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI><\/OL><\/LI><\/OL>

      <\/P>

      1. b). For each defect type (ie, each type of crack, such as alligator, longitudinal, transverse, etc ), the severity and density were assessed separately. For instance, a road could have 1 or 2 very deep potholes so the Severity would be high, but the Density (distribution along the whole road segment) would be low. Therefore, you could choose to map the results in a very detailed way by visualizing the severity and/or density of each defect type. Alternatively we created some fields at the end of the attribute table that summarize this information. <\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

        1. \u201cSeverity_Summary\u201d \u2013 for each road segment, this field adds the number of severity scores together and weights them based on if they were Low, Medium, or High. The equation is: (# of Low severity scores x 1)+(# of Medium severity scores x 2)+(# of High severity scores x 3) = Severity Summary Score<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI><\/OL>

          1. \u201cDensity_Summary\u201d \u2013 same as above, but for density<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI><\/OL>

              1. Road Base Condition:<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> There was not a detailed condition assessment of the road base done during this assessment. I believe a part of the recommendations from the project were to undertake geotechnical investigations to confirm road base condition. We do have one field that notes if road base failure was evident \u2013 \u201cRoad_Base_Failure_Yes_No\"<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI><\/OL>
